An estimated 10 billion champagne bubbles are expected to be consumed by attendees at this year’s Taste of Dublin in partnership with Electrolux which begins this Thursday 15th June and runs until Sunday 18th June.   These bubbles will be served by Taste of Dublin in enough champagne glasses to run from the event location, Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens all the way to the Spire on O’Connell Street.

Taste of Dublin is the longest standing “franchise” for Taste Festivals; now running for 12 years and the model has been emulated more than 30 times around the World.    Over 32,000 people will attend Ireland’s premier food and drink event as this year’s Taste of Dublin sees more world class chefs participate than ever before, with major kitchen names and stars including Clodagh McKenna, Daniel Clifford, Darina Allen, Jean Christophe Novelli, Kevin Dundon, Nevin Maguire, MasterChef Ireland’s Robin Gill, Ross Lewis and others appearing.  The theme for this year’s event is ‘Flavours of the World’, reflecting the increasing international influence on Irish cooking over recent years.

Some of the restaurants who will be providing mouth-watering food and drink to the attendees include Deane’s EIPIC, Greene’s Restaurant, Pickle, San Lorenzo’s, King Citric, Jaipur, Matt the Thresher, Ely, Saba, The Old Spot, Ely, The Exchequer, China Sichuan, The Wild Goose Grill, The Port House, Suesey Street and several other surprises…

This morning the organisers behind Taste of Dublin have revealed a range of additional statistics about this year’s event:

  • The 150,000 plates put side by side would reach all the way from Grafton Street to Dalkey in South County Dublin – not to mention the 40,000 bowls!
  • The 200,000 napkins could cover the 26 mile Dublin City Marathon route – TWICE.
  • Trackway flooring at this year’s event would be enough to go all the way around St. Stephen’s Green.
  • There will be 170,000 pieces of disposable cutlery – 84,000 forks, 45,000 knives & 40,000 spoons
  • 11km of electrical cable is laid to facilitate the event
  • Almost 3000 man hours are spent on building the event
  • 30+ world class chefs from Ireland and beyond.
  • 20+ of the country’s best eating establishments.
  • 160 demonstrations showcasing the latest food trends, most innovative cooking techniques, rewarding recipes, finest ingredients, delicious dishes, scintillating aromas and invigorating beverages.

“We are really excited about this year’s Taste of Dublin and the amazing line up we have planned,” said Taste of Dublin Managing Director Avril Bannerton.  “Never before have we had so much cooking talent at Taste.  There will be more than 30 world class chefs participating in this year’s event – which is a record number for Taste of Dublin.  We’re really looking forward to seeing all the intriguing dishes and exciting demonstrations they will be unveiling over the next four days.

“Our theme, ‘Flavours of the World’ seems to have really captured the imagination of chefs, restaurants and attendees this year and we can’t wait to see what they have come up with and to taste all the exciting flavours they have been discussing.  Hearing the chefs and restaurants talk about how they would tackle the challenge set by this year’s theme was like listening to talented artists discovering a whole new colour.

Feature experiences at Taste of Dublin will include, the hugely popular Electrolux “Make Life Delicious” cookery school; now even larger to accommodate more people, “Infusion” a new cocktail showcase from Barry’s Tea and our brand new “Food for Thought” feature as well as a Producers’ Row.

  • Visit the website and plan the day as there is so much to do and see with all the demos, masterclasses and new “Food for Thought”;
  • Also, check out the menus on offer from each restaurant; there are over 20 restaurants to choose from, so it’s good to come with a plan on what you want to sample;
  • See the website for the live musical entertainment line up;
  • Remember it is primarily an outdoor event, and the forecast is good – so don’t forget the sun cream!
  • Visit one of the Florin banks dotted around the venue (or use one of the many roving Florin sellers) to buy your currency…. Taste of Dublin has its own currency, so be sure to exchange euros for Florins. (one Euro equates to one Florin)
